Online agents ‘not a threat’ says Amex VP

American Express Business Travel claims to have won $1 billion in new business in six months and says it doesn’t regard online agents as a threat.

The business travel firm says it has seen off competition from online travel agents trying to break the business travel market, and has won more than 50 clients in the first six months of this year. Those clients include KPMG in Brazil, Sara Lee DE in Europe and EADS in Europe.

Vice president Pearse Reynolds told TravelMole: “American Express handles more business travel online transactions than anyone else in the industry , including the on-line travel agencies. A survey conducted recently by Accenture on our behalf found that American Express clients saved 19% more than clients of online and offline competitors.

“The fact is, we don’t see online travel agencies as a threat – our consultancy expertise means we are far better placed to deliver savings to our cleints, the Accenture Study proves that.”
