Online strategy boosts hotel chain

An extensive online marketing strategy has pushed Macdonald Hotels into the top five most visited hotel websites after languishing well down the list this time last year, according to figures from Hitwise.

The chain has risen from 190th in overall travel websites to 59th and forced its way into the leading hotel sites behind InterContinental, Travelodge, Premier Travel Inn and Hilton.

It follows the launch last December of an online strategy including new web design, email, search and affiliate campaigns and partnership agreements.

E-commerce marketing manager Sally Osborne said: “The online strategy has had a very clear focus to drive a previously untapped channel of business for Macdonald.

“Our own analysis shows that the campaign is introducing many new customers to Macdonald Hotels and the success is inspiring new and an ever more sophisticated use of Internet marketing initiatives.”

She added it has “stolen a march” on some of its competitors.
