Only here for the beer: Tourists fined for sneaking into Rome’s Colosseum
What seemed like a good idea turned into an expensive drinking session for two American travellers. They decided Rome’s iconic Colosseum was the perfect place for late night beers. They were spotted supping beer in the ancient amphitheatre at about 05:30am and promptly detained for trespassing.
The two tourists in their 20s were fined €800 euros ($905) after admitting they illegally entered the Colosseum after hours. Entry to the 2,000-year-old landmark is prohibited after dark.
