Open letter demands action on Heathrow expansion
More than 270 of Britain’s leading business leaders have signed an open letter to the Prime Minister asking for it to act on the recommendations to expand Heathrow.
The letter – sent from signatories ranging from FTSE chiefs to key business and trade associations – says that UK business growth and productivity is being held back by lack of capacity at Heathrow.
It claims further delay will be increasingly costly and undermine Britain’s position in the global economy.
David Cameron set up the Commission in 2012 to find the right way to maintain the UK’s status as an aviation hub.
Heathrow CEO John Holland Kaye said: "The Prime Minister showed leadership in establishing an independent Airports Commission. It unambiguously concluded that expanding Heathrow is the best way of securing Britain’s future as a powerhouse in the global economy.
"Let’s get on with it."
