Operator pushes sports holiday packages
Fall is the busiest time for the Canadian-based ROADTRIPS.com, but it’s also “in season” for travel agents, said Jeff Will, vice president for marketing.
“Agents have a chance to not only make money, but be real heroes to their clients,” he told TravelMole.com.
For more than a decade, ROADTRIPS. Com has offered usually high-end travel packages to sports events that are commissionable at 10% for the land portion.
“We think a lot of agents don’t know about us,” said Mr Will, who is based in Winnipeg, but whose company has extensive British and American clients.
One of the company’s specialties is selling packages to events that sports fans often think are sold out, such as the National Football League’s Super Bowl. Will said tickets are available for the upcoming event next year at prices in excess of $4,000.
The travel provider’s most popular outings, however, are “getaway” packages with tickets and hotel rooms to sporting events such as American major league baseball or football games.
In the fall going into the winter, Mr Will said, the company is most active in selling American football and Canadian hockey events.
“One thing we do, especially for travel agents, is to put out a newsletter with tips on what special offers are available. Agents can sign up for it and keep it on file when they get a client who’s interested in any type of sporting event, “Mr Will said.
There are a variety of companies selling sporting events, but ROADTRIPS.com is known for upscale trips that include four-star hotels and prime seats, according to Mr Will.
