Orbitz launches first low fare promise

Monday, 27 Oct, 2004 0

Orbitz says it has become the first travel agency to announce a Low Fare Promise available to all travelers who book flights on any of the site’s 455 airlines.

Here’s how the system works: if a customer finds a published airfare online for the same airline and flight reservation that is at least $5 less, excluding service fees, Orbitz will compensate the traveler with a $50 coupon per ticket (redeemable for future travel).

The new fare promise applies to published airfares, including Web fares, purchased on Orbitz.com and Orbitz for Business. The offer is good only for domestic flight reservations.

There are also some restrictions and conditions.

Since launching its site to the general public in June of 2001, Orbitz says it has become the third largest online travel site based on gross travel bookings. In addition to 455 airlines, it has tends of thousands of lodging properties and 2 care rental companies.
