Oregon to host 2018 North America Golf Tourism Convention
The International Association of Golf Tour Operators has announced Oregon as host for the 10th North America Golf Tourism Convention next year.
The event, staged at Sunriver Resort near the town of Bend in Central Oregon, from 24-27 June 2018, has been welcomed as an ideal showcase for golf tourism in Central Oregon.
"While many know Oregon because of the success of Bandon Dunes, there is much more to the Oregon golf experience – and Central Oregon is a story in itself," said Teresa O’Neill, Travel Oregon vice president of global sales.
Tourism leaders hope to target more domestic visitors during the convention.
"Of course, international travelers are an important market for golfing in Central Oregon because they stay four times as long and spend four times as much as other visitors. The US domestic market is also a core focus for NAC 2018 and Central Oregon with nearly 20 flights a day into Redmond from US airports," said Alana Hughson, CEO of the Central Oregon Visitors Association.
IAGTO Chief Executive Peter Walton said: "I visited Oregon for the first time last summer and I found the entire experience quite breathtaking. I had anticipated some stunning landscapes, but the quality, variety and beauty of the golf in Central Oregon is exceptional. It was the easiest decision of the past 10 years to award NAC 2018 to Oregon."
The 9th edition of the North America Golf Tourism Convention is just weeks away, taking place in Miami from 25-28 June 2017.
