Orlando trend: more luxury

Saturday, 27 Sep, 2005 0

The Florida Mall Hotel in Orlando is being turned into a first-class meeting destination in another example of the upscale trend going on in the city famous for its family tourism trade.

“In a town where cheap motels have been the standard, the arrival of new luxury hotels and services is perhaps as significant as the opening of another theme park,” said Christopher Elliot, a travel writer and consultant.

“Over the last year, Orlando has seen a 19% increase in convention and meeting business,” said Frank Couzo, the hotel’s director of sales. “We know that meeting planners who are looking at Orlando have more choices, and now expect even greater luxury in their amenities.”

The $23 million makeover to the Florida Mall Hotel, formerly known as Adam’s Mark, will give it the capability of handling 1,200 conference attendees. Total meeting space will increase to 20,000 square feet.

Technology upgrades such as 32” wall-mounted flat screen televisions are also part of the upgrades in the hotel’s 510 guestrooms.

The hotel already has one amenity that makes it standout in Central Florida: It is connected to the area’s largest retail shopping mall, The Florida Mall.
