OzJet announces Perth services from March
OzJet, the new airline that is upgrading Australian air travel, announced today its intention to start flying to and from Perth next month.
OzJet chairman Paul Stoddart flew into the West Australian capital this morning with fellow directors and senior executives to make the announcement at Perth Airport.
OzJet has already been operating Boeing 737 jets with just 60 large and luxurious leather seats and superior service between Australia’s two biggest cities, Sydney and Melbourne, for more than two months.
“It is a pleasure to announce to Western Australia, here in Perth today, that you’ve just been upgraded!” Mr Stoddart said.
“Travellers to and from Perth will soon be able to experience a new level of comfort and service at economy prices.
“We’ve decided on Perth as the next city for OzJet because of feedback from the market, and particularly people who have already flown with us on the Sydney-Melbourne route.”
OzJet’s one-way fares between Perth and Melbourne will start at $499, with none higher than $800.
It plans to operate one service a day in and out of Perth from Sundays to Fridays.
“We envisage flights arriving in Perth around 9.30 on each of those six nights, and then the eastern-bound service departing at 11.30 for an overnight flight,” Mr Stoddart said.
“We’ll offer value, space and service – and we can grow the service if the market wants it.”
OzJet will seek regulatory approval for the Perth service by applying to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority for a variation to its Air Operator Certificate granted in November 2005.
“We worked closely and harmoniously with CASA on the very comprehensive application processes for the AOC and we look forward to dealing with its thoroughly professional team again on this new project,” Mr Stoddart said.
OzJet operates three Boeing 737 jets on the busy Sydney-Melbourne route and a fourth joined its fleet last weekend and will be in service by late February.
Further aircraft will be added to the fleet over coming months as the airline expands to other capital cities.
