Pacific Blue support for tsunami orphans
PERTH – Pacific Blue passengers flying the airline’s inaugural service from Perth to Phuket at the weekend raised more then $2,400 for the Sunshine Village orphanage, which looks after the children whose parents died in the 2004 tsunami.
Sunshine Village, built with donations from the French Red Cross, looks after 95 children, most of whom were orphaned by the tsunami.
The village relies on corporate and private donations to meet its ongoing operating costs.
On the inaugural flight to Phuket, Pacific Blue auctioned a holiday to Phuket for two comprising airfares and accommodation at the luxury Indigo Pearl resort.
The auction raised $2000. Another $400 was collected from passengers on the launch flight who were treated to champagne and commemorative T-shirts.
Virgin Group’s Pacific Blue is flying Perth-Phuket on Saturdays and Tuesdays, returning Sundays and Wednesdays with launch fares available up until November 22 for travel on certain dates next year.
