Pakistan extends India airline airspace ban

Wednesday, 21 Jan, 2026 0

Pakistan has extended flight restrictions on Indian airlines for a further month.

The Pakistan Aviation Authority announced the airspace ban will continue until at least until February 24.

It applies to all planes owned, operated or leased by Indian airlines.

It issued the updated Notice to Airmen this week.

The flight ban was implemented several months ago after conflict between the two nations.

The flight ban was set to expire on January 23.

The closure of Pakistan airspace has caused airlines to bear extra costs on some westbound routes to Europe and the Middle East.

For some long-haul routes it amounts to about three hours’ extra travel time, they say.

Air India claims the ongoing airspace ban has cost the airline more than $1 million per week.
