Pakistan flag carrier gets green light to restart Europe flights
The EU air regulator has dropped the airspace ban on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) after three years.
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) confirmed it has officially lifted its suspension
This paves the way for the airline to resume flights to Europe.
PIA now meets the necessary air safety standards, the EASA said.
The airline was banned three years ago after a scandal involving fake pilot licenses and a deadly 2020 plane crash.
The airline has struggled financially for years and its current long-haul network is limited to routes such as Toronto and Beijing.
It has an extensive regional network across the Middle East.
Airline officials welcomed the EASA decision and said it hopes to restart Europe flights to cities such as London, Paris, and Frankfurt in the coming months.
The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said this week that it hopes to approve PIA to resume UK flights in ‘the near future.’
