Pakistan launching online visa facility for 175 countries
Pakistan is set to roll out a new online visa system for nationals of 175 counties.
It marks a big move to position itself as a tourism destination after years of strife, and is touting itself as a safe country with much to offer intrepid travellers.
Unveiled by the minister of state for the interior Shehryar Khan Afridi, travellers from 175 countries will be granted three-month e-visas, which will be processed within 7-10 working days.
"In the initial phase, we are starting a pilot project for one month for citizens of the UK, UAE, Malaysia, China, and Turkey," he said.
The current visa on arrival system will continue and has been extended to citizens of more countries.
"Foreign nationals of Indian origin will also be allowed to avail the facility of visa-on-arrival for religious tourism," Khan Afridi added.
The online system will also include the processing of some business and work visas to help boost trade.
"Foreign investment would only come to Pakistan if businesses know they can make money here," Prime Minister Imran Khan said.
