Palau has its first ever Covid cases
Pacific nation Palau is no longer Covid-free. After 19 months of a global pandemic Palau detected its first two cases in travellers arriving from Guam. The Government appealed for calm and resisted calls to go into a lockdown.
Although it has lost its prized Covid-free status, it is still ‘Covid-safe’ said President Surangel Whipps, as about 80% of the 18,000 population are fully vaccinated.
A Health Ministry spokesperson told the AFP they don’t believe there has been any local transmission before the travellers were placed in isolation
