Paragliders cause security scare at Mumbai airport
A jet at Mumbai airport was forced to abort take-off following a security scare when five paragliders veered onto the airport’s main flight path.
A Jet Airways flight bound for Ahmedabad was told to hold its position on the tarmac after airport staff spotted what it originally described as five ‘unidentified flying objects.’
"It could have turned into a major disaster if the aircraft’s take-off would not have been suspended," an airport source said.
"An incoming Indigo pilot informed air traffic control about paragliders crossing the flight path and heading towards the airport. They immediately called off the takeoff of the Jet Airways flight," a spokesman for the Directorate General of Civil Aviation said.
A complaint has been filed with airport police but so far the paragliders have not been identified.
