Paris attractions reopen
Paris has reopened many of its iconic cultural and tourist sites that were temporarily shut down for security reasons following the terrorist attacks on the city last Friday night.
Howefver, Disneyland Paris will remain closed until Wednesday. A statement on the theme park’s website said the closure was part of the national three-day mourning period.
The Eiffel Tower said it had tightened security before allowing visitors back up at around 3.30pm yesterday, when it was lit up in red, white and blue at the request of the city’s Mayor.
The tower will be lit in the colours of the French flag again tonight and tomorrow as the country nears an end of its three days of mourning. Also, the motto of Paris, ‘Fluctuat nec Mergitur’, will be projected onto the deck of the 1st floor.
Museums including the Louvre and other historical buildings opened at 1 p.m yesterday. A few museums, such as the Musée d’Orsay, which are closed on Mondays, reopened today.
Bernard Cazeneuve, France’s interior minister, said today that 128 searches were conducted on homes on Monday night as part of the state of emergency, announced the aftermath of the Friday 13th attacks.
However the searches are not believed to be directly related to the immediate investigation into the attacks in Paris, in which 129 people were killed.
On Monday, the raids across France ended in 23 arrests and the seizure of 31 weapons, including a rocket launcher in Lyon.
