A passenger was pinned to the tarmac by police at Dublin Airport this morning after he ran out of the terminal building towards a Ryanair plane, shouting at the pilot to stop.

The man, named by the BBC as 23-year old Patrick Kehoe, has been charged with criminal damage to a door lock and granted bail.

He is reported to have almost reached the taxiing aircraft before he was stopped by police.

Earlier he had been banging on the window inside the terminal asking ground grew to hold the flight to Amsterdam.

A ground crew member told the BBC that he ‘just ran from the building towards the plane’.

The man, who had arrived at the airport accompanied by a woman, was arrested and taken to Ballymun Garda Station. He appeared at Dublin’s Criminal Courts of Justice this morning where he was granted bail until the next hearing on November 8.

The Ryanair flight departed 21 minutes later. In a statement the airport said: "A male and female passenger were late for a Ryanair flight to Amsterdam this morning and arrived at the boarding gate after the flight had closed.

"They were engaging with Ryanair staff at the gate and the male passenger was becoming agitated.

"He was banging on the window to try and get the aircraft to wait and he then broke through a door and made his way onto the apron, trying to flag the aircraft down.

"He was was initially restrained by Ryanair staff on the apron and airport police, who had already been contacted, arrived on the scene almost immediately and arrested him.

"He was taken to the Airport Police Station and will be handed over to the Gardai (Irish police)."

Ryanair said: "Police at Dublin Airport detained an individual who breached security at the boarding gate, which had already closed. This is now a matter for local police."
