Passengers coming back, says British Airways
British Airways has delivered another improvement in passenger traffic figures as confidence continues to return after September 11.
The group says February traffic volumes – measured in the number of kilometres flown per paying customers – was down 2.5% on a year earlier. That compares with a decline of 6.9% in January and a decline of 24.7% in the first complete month after September 11. The reduction in traffic comprised a 7.8 per cent decline in business travel and a 1.4 per cent fall in non-premium traffic.
In a statement released by British Airways, the airline said that while the results were positive, the improvements have benefited from reduced capacity and continued fare discounting.
