Passengers forced to evacuate aircraft after landing gear collapses
Passengers aboard a U.S. Airways flight were forced to evacuate the plane via its emergency slides after its nose gear collapsed on a runway at Philadelphia International Airport.
Flight 1702 was heading to Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Thursday evening when the pilot was forced to abort take off shortly after the aircraft was airborne.
The nose gear collapsed when the aircraft hit the runway.
The plane was carrying 149 passengers, all of whom were rescheduled on departing flights Thursday night, the airline said.
One passenger asked for medical assistance after the crash but no serious injuries were reported.
All of the airport’s four runways were closed for a few hours after the crash, but three have since reopened with only the runway where the accident occurred remaining closed.
