Passengers hit by Gatwick runway closure
Flights at Gatwick are operating normally again following this morning’s disruption when more than 1,000 passengers were diverted to other airports.
Gatwick’s main runway was closed for planned maintenance work and dense fog meant the number of flights landing on the second runway had to be limited during the early hours of the morning.
As a result, 24 short-haul and medium-haul flights operated by British Airways, easyJet and Thomson were diverted to Stansted, Luton, Heathrow and Bristol airports, from where passengers were put on coaches to Gatwick.
BA also cancelled three short-haul flights from Gatwick due to this morning’s disruption, but the airport said its schedules were now back to normal.
