Passengers hurt in Qantas bus incident
According to the Canberra Times, seven people received minor injuries yesterday when a Qantas bus swerved to avoid an accident with another vehicle at Sydney Airport.
The bus was transferring passengers between the international and domestic terminals about 8.30am (AEDT) when the incident occurred, a Qantas spokesman said.
“This morning a Qantas transfer bus and a Sydney Airport operations vehicle were involved in a traffic incident,” he said.
“There was no collision and the circumstances of the incident are being investigated by Sydney Airport and Qantas.”
The bus driver swerved and then braked heavily to avoid hitting the other vehicle, causing a number of people to be thrown from their seats, which do not have seatbelts.
Seven passengers were injured, none seriously. The driver was not hurt.
A NSW Ambulance Service spokesman said seven emergency vehicles with 12 paramedics treated the injured.
Two passengers were treated at the scene and a distressed child also was left to his parents’ supervision after he was found to have no serious injuries.
The other four injured passengers were taken to the St George and Prince of Wales hospitals, three with neck pain and suspected minor spinal injuries.
Two patients at the Prince of Wales Hospital were discharged a short time later and a 32-year-old man is in a stable condition at St George Hospital.
St George Hospital had no details on the condition of the second patient in its care.
