Passengers injured as strong winds slam Norwegian Escape
Unexpected high winds caused havoc on a Norwegian Cruise Line ship, injuring several passengers.
Shortly before midnight on Sunday strong gusts caused the Norwegian Escape to tilt sending tables, chairs and other fixtures flying.
On video footage sounds of broken glass and screams can be heard.
The line said an abrupt gust of wind reaching about 115 mph rocked the ship but caused no damage other than items strewn around staterooms and public areas.
The Norwegian Escape ‘remains fully operational and continues her scheduled itinerary.’
Several passengers ‘received immediate attention or are being treated by the ship’s medical staff’ the line said but refused to disclose how many.
At least eight passengers were taken off the ship for treatment at local hospitals when it docked at Port Canaveral but have since been released.
The ship heads to Great Stirrup Cay and Nassau before returning to New York.
