Penang set for hot air balloon festival
Penang is reaching for the sky in an attempt to attract more tourists with a two-day hot air balloon festival taking place next month.
The Penang Hot Air Balloon Fiesta will be held on February 21 and 22 at the Padang Polo grounds aiming at encouraging more participation in the sport.
Tethered balloon rides will be offered to the public at RM25 per person during the two-day event.
Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said it is part of the ‘Fabulous February Fiesta’ for Penang and will start the ‘Year of Festivals’ initiative in partnership with the Visit Penang 2015 campaign.
Visitors will be able to watch freestyle balloon demonstrations and take part in other activities on the ground such as archery competitions, a fun run, as well as remote controlled airplane races and paragliding.
Lim said it will kick off a year of sports and cultural events planned in the state to help reverse a slide in tourist numbers during 2014.
