Pennsylvania tourism web sites honored with 2009 Webby Awards
Webby Awards go to fewer than 15 percent of the more than 10,000 entries received from more than 60 countries. Pennsylvania’s entries — visitPA.com and newPA.com — were recognized for creativity, functionality and overall excellence.
"This Webby distinction recognizes everything that is fun and different about visitPA.com and newPA.com and the creative ways they attract tourists and businesses while being a resource for communities," said Mickey Rowley, the Department of Community and Economic Development’s deputy secretary of tourism, film and economic development marketing.
VisitPA.com is the official travel and tourism site for visitors to the state. In September, the site was redesigned to provide visitors with a more in-depth conversation about Pennsylvania. The more a visitor is engaged, the more likely they are to plan a trip in Pennsylvania.
"On visitPA.com, our visitors can learn about great places to visit, read stories from other travelers, and build their own roadtrips," Rowley said.
NewPA.com was designed to be a tool for business decision-makers and community leaders to explore the wide range of programs, resources and business incentives available in the commonwealth.
"It is not your typical government agency Web site. DCED’s goal is to be totally customer-service oriented and to help businesses and communities in Pennsylvania succeed," Rowley said. "Features like clear navigation, lists of most popular pages, the ability to save content, and a comprehensive database of funding options make the site useful and easy to use."
Established in 1996, the Webby Award is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a 550-member body of leading Web experts, business figures, luminaries, visionaries and creative celebrities.
