Perth next for China Southern flights
The West Australian government has signed an agreement with China Southern Airlines for direct flights between Perth and China.
No details were given about the financial arrangements of the deal, or any other incentives offered to China Southern to launch the flights.
WA tourism minister Kim Hames said, “Gaining direct air access to the massive Chinese tourism market is a top priority of the state government and Tourism WA.â€
In 2010, 12,000 Chinese visitors came to WA, an increase of 32.1 per cent on 2009.
Dr Hames added, “Currently WA only attracts about three per cent of Chinese visitors to Australia, and the government and Tourism WA want to rectify that and significantly increase our share of the Chinese market.
China Southern has two major hubs – at Beijing and the new Baiyun International Airport at Guangzhou.
Last year China Southern launched charter flights to Adelaide.
