Perth travel agency closure leaves travellers out of pocket

Sunday, 03 Aug, 2016 0
Several travellers have been left high and dry to the tune of several thousand dollars after a Perth travel agent abruptly closed down.

Several customers have found their travel plans in disarray and at least one family stranded overseas when they found their return flight booking was not paid for by Global Plus Holidays.

The agency suddenly closed last week.

The Department for Consumer Affairs said the agency had confirmed it is facing financial problems and is seeking advice from insolvency experts.

Consumer Protection Commissioner David Hillyard urged all customers with bookings to check that all travel arrangements had been paid for.

"We urgently advise customers to contact the airline and accommodation providers direct to ensure they have confirmed bookings that are fully paid before travelling," he said.

Consumer Protection believes bookings for around 40 people may be affected amounting to A$150,000.
