Philippines uses London cabbies to sell country
The Philippines is promoting its holiday destination to Europe by branding London black cabs and buses.
The tourism initiative is aimed at travellers opting for a Hong Kong or Singapore city break – pointing out the Philippines is only a few hours away.
The Philippines department of tourism claims London is the number one source of tourists from Europe.
Marie Venus Q. Tan, regional director for Europe for the Philippines department of tourism said: "As we focus on international marketing, London proves to be an excellent global platform, by launching the taxi campaign here we are not only targeting the British but effectively an international audience."
"The taxi promotion is a sustained initiative, and more brand and destination awareness campaigns shall be visible in the coming months."
The taxi campaign, which promotes the Philippines’ beach, diving, history and culture, is part of a drive to get 10 million visitor arrivals by 2016, with 207,000 visitors coming from the UK. This is an increase of 15% per year.
