PhoCusWright says Americans now buy more travel online than off-line

Thursday, 09 Jan, 2008 0

Travel industry researchers PhoCusWright say in their PhoCusWright Consumer Travel Trends Survey that 2007 was the first revealing Americans bought more travel on line than off line.

The Report also predicted that the trend would continue, with the gap widening as more and more travelers become confident and comfortable with booking on line.

51% of US travel was booked online in 2007, with PhoCusWright expecting that to increase to 56% in 2008 and 60% in 2009.

As expected the report does say that travel involving more complicated components, including packages and complicated itineraries are being purchased offline, with simple straighforward purchases such as tickets, being made on line.

The report also said that travel websites are continuing to evolve, offering new features like travel planning and user generated content.
