Phuket scraps quarantine for travellers from Bangkok
In a boost for local tourism operators, Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew has eased some travel restrictions to the holiday island.
The Governor scrapped the requirements to quarantine on arrival for Bangkok residents.
People from four districts in Bangkok – Nong Khaem, Bang Phlat, Bang Khae and Bang Khun Thian were previously required to observe a 14-day quarantine.
This is now not required, although it does still apply to travellers coming from some other provinces including Samut Sakhon, Rayong, Chonburi, Trat, Chanthaburi, Nakhon Prathom and Nonthaburi .
The order now puts Bangkok in the secondary list of ‘red zone’ risk areas.
The decision came just a day after Phuket tourism leaders called for a relaxation to aid the island’s ravaged tourism industry.
They also called for quarantine free international tourism to restart by October, allowing vaccinated travellers to come without restrictions.
