Plane “missing with 100 passengers on board”
Authorities in Afghanistan are reportedly searching for a commercial aircraft that has gone missing with more than 100 people on board.
According to the BBC News website, the Kam Air plane was flying from Heart to Kabul on Thursday; it was turned away from Kabul airport because of heavy snow and lost contact with air traffic control shortly afterwards.
The website reports that most of the passengers on board were Afghans but that there were also several foreigners travelling.
The aircraft is reported to have been diverted to the Pakistani city of Peshawar but it never arrived there.
A Pakistani civil aviation authority spokesman is quoted as saying: “We have information that a plane went missing on the Heart-Kabul route but no plane has entered Pakistani territory and no plane has made contact with the control tower. We have checked all our stations.”
The BBC reports that Kam Air, the country’s only private airline, was set up last year and flies on domestic and international routes.
