PM faces backlash over new airport scheme
Prime Minister David Cameron is facing a revolt from Tory MPs over his proposal to back London Mayor Boris Johnson’s plan for a new airport in the Thames Estuary.
Six backbenchers have written to the PM warning that the scheme will cause huge environmental damage, according to the Telegraph.
Late last year Cameron dismissed plans for a new airport in the southeast, but he is now believed to be considering carrying out a feasibility study into Johnson’s proposal.
The Telegraph said the letter opposing the scheme had been signed by Remhan Chishti, Tory MP for Gillingham and Rainham; Tracey Crouch MP for Chatham and Aylesford; Gordon Henderson MP, for Sittingbourne & Sheppey; Adam Holloway, MP for Gravesham; Gareth Johnson, MP for Dartford and Mark Reckless MP for Rochester and Strood.
