Possible Aer Lingus Manchester strike could disrupt half term flights
Manchester travellers are being warned of possible flight disruption which could impact the busy half term holidays.
Unionised members at Aer Lingus UK are being balloted on strike action after rejecting a pay deal.
It would affect almost 130 workers at the airport’s Terminal 2 including check-in staff and cabin crew.
The ballot is set to close on October 13.
They rejected a 12% pay offer spread across two years.
Despite it being a double-digit increase, union Unite says base salaries are so low many workers are struggling to pay bills and rent.
“While Aer Lingus senior management are lining their pockets, hardworking members of staff are left struggling to afford the basics,” said Sharon Graham, Unite general secretary.
“Unite will not stand idly by and let Aer Lingus put profits before people.”
The union claims of a ‘stark pay disparity’ for Aer Lingus workers in Manchester compared to Dublin-based workers.
