Power outage halts the magic at Disneyland
Disneyland in Anaheim was far from the Happiest Place on Earth on Wednesday.
A power outage which disrupted a crowded Disneyland was restored late Wednesday but not before it caused chaos with a dozen rides and the monorail shut down.
On one of the busiest days of the year, attractions at Toontown and Fantasyland suddenly ground to a halt and guests had to be escorted from halted rides.
No injuries were reported after the abrupt outage.
"We have experienced a power outage near Mickey’s Toontown and Fantasyland. We are working diligently to restore power to the affected areas as soon as possible," Disney tweeted at the time.
It blamed the outage on a faulty transformer and it took several hours for full power to be restored.
Guests were moved away from the affected areas in scenes described as ‘chaotic’ by some customers due to the number of visitors.
By 5pm local time the park was fully operational again.
Once rides began coming back on line the conversation quickly turned to frustration for guests and questions over refunds.
Many vented on social media seeking partial refunds for the disruption, particularly as it fell on one of the highest priced ‘peak’ days.
Visitors said no refunds were offered but later Disney said they will now be assessed ‘on a case-by-case situation handled by guest services,’ according to spokeswoman Elva Rubalcava.
