Prepare to Perform
Mandy Scotney [Pictured] GM for TMS in Asia Pacific says that from entry level roles right through to senior positions it is the job interview that will determine if you are successful in landing that new job or not.
And despite more and more sophisticated methods of recruiting the candidate, it is the candidate that interviews the best that is generally offered the role.
For this reason Mandy says that candidates must spend some time considering their interviewing skills and spend some time in preparation in order to perform at their best.
Mandy’s hot tips include: –
** If you are working through a professional recruitment company, you should expect to be given a brief about the role, the organisation and what to expect at interview.
** If you are working directly with the organization then you should endeavour to get hold of the following information below.
Some basic areas candidates you should research when preparing for an interview include:
** Company Background – sources include documents such as the most recent annual report, press releases, the company’s website, and try to gain some insight on the culture;
** The interviewer – See what you can find out about the interviewer eg.how long have they been with the company, and then how long in their current role, what their position is and what their personality is like;
** The position – A professional recruiter should describe to you the results the company is looking to achieve by filling the position, what are the challenges the individual will need to overcome in order to be successful, and what other internal departments will have an impact on the results that this person will be able to achieve.
** The interview – Find out what you can about the interview. How many interviewers and what style interview can you expect.
The basic principe is that better prepared you are for an interview, the better you will perform and similarly the more research you do the better able you will be to decide if this role and company is the one for you.
