Protestors block cruise ship in Amsterdam
Climate activists were out in force again earlier this week, blocking a cruise ship’s arrival in Amsterdam.
Around 30 people blocked the passage of the Celebrity Eclipse on a scheduled port call in the city.
Members of Extinction Rebellion took to canoes and inflatables to bar the way for the ship as it prepared to dock.
The early morning protest on the water delayed it only for about two hours until police cleared the blockade.
Extinction Rebellion claimed the police actions were heavy handed and ran over one of its inflatables.
Five people were arrested, the police said.
The activist group has vowed to continue its protests with the ultimate goal of removing large cruise shups from Amsterdam.
The cruise ship was carrying more than 2800 guests.
Extinction Rebellion conducted many operations last year to sabotage or delay cruise ship calls, blocking access to one of the port’s locks into the city.
