Puerto Rico expands Airbnb partnership
Puerto Rico has tapped Airbnb to help get the message across that Puerto Rico is open for business.
The home sharing platform is expanding its partnership to lure more visitors as the island continues its post-hurricane reconstruction.
Airbnb said it will donate all fees for bookings for the next three months to recovery efforts and is rolling out 50 new activity experiences across Puerto Rico.
These include sailing and hiking tours.
"It’s important to encourage people to continue to visit Puerto Rico. This is a superpower that Airbnb has," said Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky.
There is still an estimated 20,000 people without round-the-clock electricity.
"I never imagined that I would live to see the level of devastation that Hurricane Maria left in Puerto Rico. Those 18 hours changed the course of our history forever," said Maria Cuba, experiences global diversity head for Airbnb.
Gov. Ricardo Rossello said a strong tourism sector is key to Puerto Rico’s regeneration.
"Because of the storm, people are aware that there is this small island that has a lot to offer," he said.
