Qantas charged with workplace safety breach
Qantas has been charged under the NSW Work Health and Safety Act after it stood down an employee who raised issues about workplace exposure to Covid-19 early into the pandemic.
SafeWork NSW filed charges in the District Court of NSW against Qantas Ground Services earlier this month. SafeWork NSW alleges Qantas engaged in ‘discriminatory conduct for a prohibited reason.’
The worker was a health and safety rep who advised workers not to clean planes arriving from China in early 2020 without sufficient protective gear and procedures.
