qantas debt
DEAR EDITOR I have been surprised at the ease with which APA is able to send Qantas into debt and no-one in is able to make sense of how they are going to be recover that debt and still spend money on one of the oldest big plane fleets around. The way APA is going to take billions out in the first year reminds me of the way Suharto used to take money out of Garuda and leave the company with no resources to up-grade or maintain its ageing fleet. Is Australia ready for Qantas to loose one of its near 30 year old 747’s in a crash and are the pollies ready to see Qantas go to the bottom of the harbour when the debt becomes to much and the accounts say “oh well” and walk away. Qantas trades on its reputation and if that is damaged and numbers drop how can such a company support 11 billion dollars of debt.
