Qantas Increases New Zealand Services For Ski Season

William Kernot, MD of Skimax, believes the winter direct services to Queenstown, is particularly good news for skiers and boarders.

Kernot said:”The growing demand for easy access to the number one Kiwi winter destination (Queenstown) was recognised by Qantas a decade ago and the introduction of additional flights, particularly from Melbourne and Brisbane, has been well received by our customers.”

Many time-poor Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane skiers can now jump on a Queenstown bound Qantas two-class, 168 seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft and fly direct to the adventure capital of the Southern Hemisphere.

From the end of June until the end of September there are three flights a week from Sydney (Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday) and one each week from Brisbane (Saturday) and Melbourne (Sunday). It is a short, three hour flight, direct to the most popular winter holiday destination in New Zealand’s South Island.

The tri-weekly Qantas services from Sydney will mean skiers can be in the heart of New Zealand’s South Island in about three hours and could be riding the ski lifts at Coronet Peak on Saturday afternoon. Melbourne-based powderhounds could also be on the slopes the same day. The weekly flight from the capital of Victoria arrives just after midday allowing lots of time to pick up their rental car and then drive up to the snow-covered slopes at The Remarkables or Coronet Peak, the two closest ski areas to Queenstown.

“Our value-for money, four night Quickbreak package, is perfect for three days’ skiing or boarding at the two world-class ski areas quite close to Queenstown. The package includes four nights hotel or apartment accommodation in the heart of Queenstown, a two day ski pass (valid at The Remarkables or Coronet Peak) and four days car rental.”

The Qantas direct flights to Queenstown start from $538 plus taxes $208 per person ex Sydney.

SKIMAX 4 night Quickbreak packages:

Four nights hotel-style accommodation, staying at the Crowne Plaza Queenstown, plus four day car rental and a two day skipass, costs from $459 per person. A luxury apartment option ( four sharing at The Glebe) two minutes walk from the apres ski action downtown, with the same inclusions, costs from $472 per person.
