Qantas increases trans Tasman flights
After announcing over the Christmas New Year period that it would be pulling its Wellington to Christchurch route in March, Qantas has announced that it is adding eight return trans-Tasman flights from Auckland, with the Boeing 737 used on the twice daily service between Wellington and Christchurch to be transferred to increase services between Auckland to Brisbane to 28 return flights a week.
Air New Zealand currently flies 26 times a week on the Auckland to Brisbane route but are also increasing services to 31 times a week in March.
With Qantas and Air New Zealand having been unsuccessful in their proposed merger on the Tasman Air New Zealand announced that it would cut its total Tasman capacity by 11% between April and October, but mainly on services to Melbourne and Sydney.
