Qantas launches first ever New York flights via Auckland
Qantas has taken flight on its first ever nonstop from New York to Auckland.
The service continues on to Australia after a three-year Covid hiatus.
The flights will operate on new Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
This new route to Auckland provides non-stop service to New Zealand from New York with better connectivity from the US East Coast and Eastern Canada.
It also connects easily to Christchurch, Wellington, Dunedin, Queenstown and destinations beyond New Zealand.
Qantas’ Sydney-New York service was previously operated via Los Angeles.
By providing a stop in Auckland it puts Qantas in direct competition with rival Air New Zealand on its home patch.
“SYD-AKL-JFK is a route we had already been looking at before the pandemic. Auckland is an easier connecting point than through LA,” a Qantas spokesperson said.
