Qantas pilot passes out after landing plane
A Qantas Airways pilot lost consciousness in the cockpit moments after landing a plane at Sydney Airport.
Following the routine landing, the trainee captain passed out, it was revealed.
The incident happened on Qantas flight QF804 from Canberra, which was carrying 113 passengers.
The aircraft was in the process of taxiing to the gate and had vacated the runway.
The trainee captain told the first officer he was unwell before losing consciousness.
The flight had a supervising check captain aboard which is standard policy when a trainee pilot is in the cockpit.
Medical staff were called to treat the pilot as passengers were deplaning.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) said it was informed of the ‘pilot incapacitation event.’
The ATSB said the incident posed no risk to flight safety as it was on the ground and a third trained pilot was present.
Qantas said flight crew followed all standard procedures.
“The safety and well-being of our passengers and crew is our priority, and we’re supporting the individual following the incident.”
