Qantas scrapping seat fees on most international economy fares

Tuesday, 16 Sep, 2015 0

Qantas will reduce or waive fees for selecting seats on international flights for most economy tickets.

Beginning September 23, Qantas is doing away with the $25 fee for advance seat selection on all international tickets in ‘economy saver’ and ‘economy flex’ fares.

On trans-Tasman flights, the fee will still apply but will drop from $25 to $15.

However travellers who book the cheapest economy sale fares will pay more for choosing a seat in advance.

The fee will go up by $5 to $30.

Free seat selection continues in other classes of service for premium economy, business and first class, and for frequent flyers with silver status or above.

"Economy saver and flex fare customers who selected their seat before September23 will not be eligible for a refund of any seat selection charge paid, except where otherwise permitted in the seat selection terms and conditions," Qantas said.

"If, after 23 September 2015, a customer makes changes to existing seat selection on the same flight, an adjustment may apply to the charge already paid."
