Qantas to launch Dreamliner service from Brisbane to LA

Australian flag carrier Qantas will begin Dreamliner service from Brisbane to Los Angeles from September this year.

The Dreamliners replace Qantas’ Boeing 747s which will be phased out on the route by the year-end.

LAX service by Dreamliner begins on September 1 with reservations now live.

Qantas’s three-class Dreamliners accommodate 236 passengers in business class, economy and all-new premium economy.

From September-December the Dreamliner service ‘will be complemented by up to three weekly Boeing 747 flights to meet seasonal demand,’

It will then continue on as flight number QF11/12, a connecting service linking Los Angeles and New York JFK.

When Qantas’ eighth Dreamliner is delivered by the end of 2018, it will replace the 747s.

It becomes Qantas’ fourth Dreamliner international route after Perth-London and Melbourne to San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Qantas just celebrated the first successful US-Australia biofuel flight, operating a Dreamliner from LAX to Melbourne powered by fuel blended from mustard seeds.

The biofuel blend was developed in partnership with Canadian firm Agrisoma Biosciences.

"The biofuel goes through exactly the same certification and tests as standard aviation fuel," said Qantas International CEO Alison Webster.
