SYDNEY – Qantas has further reduced its fuel surcharges, lopping $30 off one-way fares between Australia and Europe/UK. The new surcharge is $160 one-way for tickets issued from today.

The crude oil price peaked at $US147.27 a barrel in July and has since fallen to $US38 per barrel – a four-and-a-half year low.

Qantas executive general manager John Borghetti said that the group’s fuel bill this financial year would still be $400 million higher than in 2007/08.

The surcharge for USA, Canada, South America, India and South Africa falls $20 to $130 and the new Asia Pacific and Honolulu surcharge will be $95, a drop of $15.

The one-way surcharge to New Zealand is trimmed $10 to $55, while the domestic sector surcharge for Qantas and Qantas Link eases back from $21 to $18.
