Qatar Air offers onboard laptop loan for US-bound flights

Qatar Airways plans to ensure business travelers stay productive on US bound flights despite the electronics ban.

The Doha based airline will offer free laptops to business and first class passengers on affected flights from next week, said airline chief Akbar Al-Baker.

"By providing this laptop loan service we can ensure that our passengers on flights to the US can continue to work whilst on board," he said.

UAE carrier Emirates is also mulling a laptop loaning service for premium passengers.

Etihad Airways already announced it will offer free Wi-Fi and iPads to its first and business class passengers on US flights.

The US imposed a ban on electronic devices bigger than a cellphone from 10 airports in seven countries in the Middle East, Turkey and North Africa.

The ban has been harshly criticized by various airline groups and business travel organizations as poorly thought out and ineffective.
