QE2 security tightened after ‘threat’
The QE2 has been put on alert in Egypt after a unspecified threat.
Owner Cunard said the ship had been put on a higher level of security after “certain information” was received.
The vessel was in Alexandria on a 109-day world cruise with around 1,700 passengers on board.
A Cunard spokeswoman, quoted by the BBC, said: “We believe there is no cause for alarm. As a precaution, we have placed the ship on to a higher level of security as it passes through this area.”
Police boats tracked the QE2 through the Suez Canal and stood guard when it berthed in Alexandria, the BBC reported. All passenger excursions were going ahead.
