Quake rattles Southern California
South California was rattled by a 4.4-magnitude earthquake Tuesday night but no damage or injuries were reported.
The quake was only about 25 miles east of downtown Los Angeles with an epicenter close to La Verne in the San Gabriel Valley, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
It was widely felt across the region with ‘violent shaking’ close to the epicenter.
"It was like if somebody had grabbed it and was shaking the house," said Vickie Carillo of La Verne.
"We haven’t had an earthquake (like that) in quite a while."
Another La Verne resident, Victor Flores, told the LA Times the shaking was ‘extremely violent.’
A magnitude 3.4 quake followed a minute later, the USGS said, as well as a number of smaller aftershocks.
