Quirky compelling destinations seek caring travel agent partners
Massive potential for profitable, long term, fulfilling relationships for right matches
Quirkily delightful destinations have much to offer the right partners but because they are individual and unique they need careful, thoughtful, individual presentation.
Take Greece, for example. OK there are some big time destinations, but the deep charm and attraction of the country is off the beaten track. When you’ve tasted pungent honey on the mountains of Crete, squelched a sun-warmed peach in your mouth in an island orchard eaten just-caught grilled fish in a tiny harbourside café with a glass of Ouzo in the sunset, you’ll know what I mean.
Unique, compelling, romantic, authentic are adjectives that spring to mind amongst many others
One off experiences that can’t be delivered en masse – the sort of thing that LITERALLY EVERYONE wants to feel – real deep relaxation and a coherent sense of place – in other words a REALLY AUTHENTIC EXPERIENCE.
In fact, these are experiences that most tourists would form an orderly queue to buy and enjoy.
Yes, the copywriters can rave on about it and bring in hordes of "punters" (their word not ours), but mass tourism can’t deliver this reality – so clients go home unfulfilled with the bad taste of their commodity experience still in their mouths.
Tempted by fabulous pictures, words and videos but provided with the same old same old.
There is another way. A much more powerful worthwhile way.
Just imagine a relationship between some of the 100,000 small scale travel agencies around the world, direct with a small, chosen range of destinations on the one hand and direct with their customers on the other.
It’s possible isn’t it?
This simple disruptive innovation visualizes the travel agent as trusted advisor creating and delivering a small range of authentic, well-researched product direct to the needs and perceptions of a range of good clients.
Of course they’d only sell things that would be good for the destination (who’d want to kill the golden goose after all) and that their clients would relish – before, during and after.
Result – happier destinations, much happier and more fulfilled clients who would spread the word about the service and the destination – and much,, much more job satisfaction and much, much, much more sustainable profit for travel agents.
If it’s such a good idea, why hasn’t it been done before, you may ask? Well, of course it has – just look at the dramatic rise in profits and business at the concierge operations like Quintessentially – or the long term success of organizations like Trailfinders.
Why isn’t everyone doing it then? Simply because the big organizations (you know who!) have their focus on the big numbers – they have to. If you’re committed to paying for a fleet of airplanes, a group of hotels or a bunch of computers you have to do big things to fill them.
So let the commodity tourism traders deal with their commodity – all inclusives, cruises, chain hotels, global distribution services – and their massive sales figures and tiny, wafer thin margins.
And research and deliver travel arrangements that are good for destinations, good for clients and good for you!
Good idea?
