Racing piglets, the Northern Lights and free skiing for kids

- Balkan Holidays still has a few last-minute deals on seven-night ski holidays to Bulgaria over Christmas, starting, from £274 per person departing from Bristol on December 22, and £279 departing from Newcastle and Manchester on December 23, staying at the three-star Hotel Mura in Bansko. Prices include breakfast, return flights to Sofia and transfers, based on two people sharing.
- Ski Total is offering an early January ski trip to Val d’Isere, one of the most sought after ski resorts in Europe, at a reduced price of £499pp, a saving of £100. The price includes flights from Southampton (other airports are available) on January 6, transfers and seven nights in the catered Chalet Hotel Champs Avalins.
- Families able to squeeze in a ski trip outside the school holidays can save about £1,000 on a package to Obergurgl with Esprit Ski, which is offering a week at the Chalet Alpenblume for £1,300 for two adults and two children, departing on January 6. Full price, the holiday would cost up to £2,336. The price includes return flights from Gatwick, transfers, catered accommodation and free babysitting. Childcare is available from £199 for a week, exclusive of Esprit ski lessons.
- New offerings from Ski Solutions this winter include a week in cross country skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing in Yllas in Finland. Guests have the possibility of seeing the Northern lights whilst reindeer, huski or snowmobile safari-ing. Prices start at £299, including flights from Gatwick and accommodation in a log cabin.
- Kids 12 and under can ski free at the Colorado resort of Keystone every day this season without any blackout dates if they stay two or more nights in one of Keystone’s numerous owned and operated accommodation options, which span from luxury hotel rooms to cosy ski-in/ski-out condominiums. - The Swiss ski resort of Kloster isn’t all about winter sports, oh no, it’s got piglet racing too. Every New Year’s Day, 10 little porkers run through the streets of the town cheered along by locals and tourists.
